European regulators have begun a preliminary investigation into Amazon as both a merchant and a platform. Regulators contend that Amazon could be collecting product sales data from its third-party sellers and using it to create private label brands, which they would then sell for less, eliminating a competitor. U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has expressed the same concern.
