Direct sellers are meeting obstacles head-on to emerge stronger than ever
As I gathered the news and stories from the channel to bring you this month—while at the same time navigating, just as you are, the difficulties of an Omicron-disrupted routine, the news of friends and family testing positive, and all of the usual curveballs life can throw at us from week to week—I gained some much-needed inspiration. Many of these direct selling newsmakers and thought leaders seemed to share something in common as they addressed the issues facing their businesses, and that is, simply, an attitude of persistence!
Yes, the cumulative exhaustion from the latest pandemic surge is real. The effects of inflation and supply chain difficulties are certainly felt by consumers and businesses alike. Some analysts are warning a major market correction may be near as the market slumped through the month of January. And the legislators in D.C. are certainly not giving observers optimism for a break from the partisan gridlock anytime soon.
Yet, despite these reasons for pessimism, the energy exuded so far this year from both direct selling suppliers and executives resonates with an attitude of persistence. They show a measured, but focused, determination to take each challenge as it comes and to learn from it. That way they can use it as a stepping stone to regroup, improve and, in some cases, course-correct. This persistence will continue to transform direct selling and will be a potent countermeasure against the negative pressures from the economy, the media, and regulatory targeting.
Speaking of countermeasures for regulatory targeting, SSN is proud to feature the law firms that so skillfully service the direct selling channel in this month’s issue. I am personally grateful to these esteemed legal experts for their consistent contributions to this publication and for sharing their knowledge about the legal and regulatory hurdles facing the channel, as well as their insights on reducing risks to your business and compensation plans.
I encourage our readers to check out the legal -focused Risk Roundup, The Ranks, and Quick Takes this month and to utilize these great minds in the year ahead. I know several of them will be joining me at the Direct Selling Legal and Compliance summit later this month in Austin, Texas. As SSN is the media sponsor for this event, I hope to see you there as well. Please visit dslcsummit.org to register.
