As Presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) calls for greater government regulation of Amazon, Facebook and Google, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Justice (DOJ) may be joining forces in antitrust oversight of the tech giants. According to The Wall Street Journal, the two U.S. regulators have agreed to split their focus, with the DOJ taking on any potential antitrust investigation into Google and the FTC having oversight of Facebook. The Washington Post has reported that Amazon is also under close scrutiny by the FTC. Google faces a serious antitrust probe into its Alphabet Inc. unit by the DOJ, according to Bloomberg, while Reuters reports that Apple may also be susceptible to a probe by the DOJ for unspecified regulatory violations.
