Microsoft Corp. will permanently shut down all of its Microsoft Store locations as part of a “new approach to retail.” The company will turn four high-profile stores—Manhattan (Fifth Ave.), London (Oxford Circus), Sydney, Australia (Westfield Sydney) and Redmond, Washington—into “Microsoft Experience Centers” for customers to see demos, experience products, and learn about technology. Microsoft will also offer business and education consultations, host trainings, and continue community events and workshops. Store employees will resume serving customers remotely or from Microsoft corporate. According to a company spokesperson, the evolution of the Microsoft workforce has proven that customers with any number of needs can be served successfully remotely, and it is the future of work.
